Business and LLC Services
Saddle Peak Law works with small businesses, entrepreneurs, and nonprofits across the state — from the first LLC paperwork to ongoing legal questions you didn't know you needed to ask.
Just starting out?
You've got a business idea and you're trying to figure out how to make it official — or you've been operating for a while without a real legal foundation. We help you choose the right structure, get your documents in order, and start on solid ground.
Growing and getting complicated?
Contracts, employees, vendors, IP — as your business grows, so does your legal exposure. We help established businesses clean up agreements, build better policies, and stay ahead of problems before they become expensive ones.
Need someone in your corner?
Some businesses don't need a lawyer for a one-time project — they need a trusted advisor they can call when questions come up. Our general counsel services give you that without the cost of in-house counsel.
Services We Offer:
Trademark and Copyright Protection
If you've built something — a brand name, a logo, a training curriculum, a website — it's worth protecting. We help clients register trademarks and copyrights, run clearance searches before you invest in a brand, and respond when someone else is using what's yours.
For trademarks, we handle state and federal USPTO applications, renewals, and enforcement. For copyrights, we register original works including written content, graphics, and digital materials and assist with infringement response.
Flat-fee pricing available.
Contract Drafting and Review
A contract you found online might hold up fine — or it might not, and you won't find out until something goes wrong.
We draft and review vendor contracts, service agreements, NDAs, operating agreements, independent contractor agreements, and more. The goal is always the same: documents that are clear, enforceable, and written for your actual situation — not someone else's.
Flat-fee pricing available for most drafting and review projects.
Business Formation
Choosing between an LLC, corporation, partnership, or other entity isn't just a paperwork decision — it affects your taxes, your liability, and how you can grow. We walk you through the tradeoffs, help you choose the right structure for your situation, and handle the filings, operating agreements, and setup from start to finish.
Our full-service formation package includes entity selection guidance, Articles of Organization or Incorporation, a customized operating agreement or bylaws, registered agent services, and EIN registration.
Flat-fee pricing available.
Employment & Labor Law
Employment issues — wage disputes, problem terminations, handbook gaps, misclassified workers — have a way of becoming expensive fast. We work with Montana employers to stay compliant, handle HR questions before they escalate, and resolve disputes when they do.
Our services include drafting and reviewing employee handbooks and employment policies, advising on wage and hour compliance, and providing guidance on hiring, discipline, and workplace investigations. We also represent employers in employment claims and litigation.
See also our dedicated Employment Law page for more detail.
General Counsel Services
Most small businesses can't justify a full-time attorney — but they still run into legal questions constantly. Our outsourced general counsel services give you a trusted legal advisor on an ongoing basis, without the overhead.
We become the lawyer you call before you sign something, when an employee situation feels off, when a vendor pushes back on your contract terms, or when you're making a decision that has legal implications you're not sure about. Responsive, practical, and there when you need it.

Legal advice from someone who's been on your side of the table.
Most business attorneys know the law. Fewer know what it's like to actually run an organization.
Before founding Saddle Peak Law, Brittany spent nearly a decade as Director of Operations for a Bozeman business — managing HR decisions, vendor contracts, compliance headaches, and strategic growth from the inside. She's sat in the chair you're sitting in. She's made the calls you're trying to make.
That experience shapes how she approaches every client situation.
At Saddle Peak Law, we are not going to give you a technically correct answer that doesn't work in the real world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Choosing the right business structure is one of the most important decisions you’ll make—it affects your taxes, liability, paperwork, and ability to grow. The most common types include:
Sole Proprietorship – Simple and low-cost, but offers no personal liability protection.
LLC (Limited Liability Company) – A flexible, popular option that protects your personal assets while allowing for simpler taxes and management.
Corporation (C-Corp or S-Corp) – Ideal for businesses planning to scale or seek investors but comes with more rules and formalities.
Partnership – Good for businesses with multiple owners, but liability depends on the type (general or limited).
At Saddle Peak Law, we’ll walk you through the pros and cons of each structure based on your goals, industry, and risk level—so you can start your business on solid ground.
Our full service business formation package will help you choose the best business entity for your business and will also provide all legal documents, Articles of Incorporation, Registered Agent services, and tax ID/EIN registration for your business.

Lawyers can help with nearly any legal document—whether you're starting a business, hiring employees, buying property, or resolving a dispute. Having a lawyer draft or review your documents helps protect your interests, avoid costly mistakes, and ensure everything holds up legally.
At Saddle Peak Law, we regularly draft and review:
Business contracts and service agreements
LLC operating agreements and partnership documents
Lease agreements and real estate documents
Demand letters, settlement agreements, & more
If it involves legal language or risk, it’s worth having a lawyer take a look.

Templates are better than nothing. But generic contracts often don't reflect Montana law, don't address the specifics of your business, and leave gaps that create problems later. The cost of having a contract reviewed or drafted upfront is almost always less than the cost of a dispute that stems from a contract that didn't hold up.

Technically, no—but registration gives you real legal power.
For copyrights, your work is automatically protected the moment it's created and fixed in a tangible form (like a written document, photo, or recording). However, registering your copyright with the U.S. Copyright Office gives you stronger legal rights—like the ability to sue for damages if someone uses your work without permission.
For trademarks, you get some limited protection just by using your brand name or logo in commerce. But registering with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) gives you nationwide protection, makes enforcement easier, and helps stop others from using a similar name or logo.
At Saddle Peak Law, we can help you decide when and how to register—and make the process straightforward.

It means you have a lawyer you can call — not a stranger you're hiring cold every time something comes up. We get to know your business, your agreements, your team, and your goals, so when you have a question (should I sign this? Is this situation a problem? What do I do about this employee?) you get a useful answer fast, not a lengthy intake process.
At Saddle Peak Law, we offer general counsel services tailored for small businesses, nonprofits, and entrepreneurs who don’t need a full-time in-house lawyer but still want trusted, ongoing legal support.
